About us

Bell Brothers have been around for quite a while, since 1750 as Bell Brothers Jewellers to be exact! But it is only since 1931 that it moved to its former premises on Priory Place and separate from the jewellery arm of the business. At this time Mr Jack Bell was the owner and remained so until we, the current owners, bought the business from him over 30 years ago.

Today, we, Colyn Firth and Joe Sham, own and manage the business together. We are fully trained and qualified optometrists and dispensing opticians which means that we can offer the complete range of eye care and advice between us.

Running a successful opticians practice in a busy town centre does of course need a whole team of people and we are supported by a great one!

Antony Rigby is a qualified Dispensing Opticians and is our General Manager who likes to make everyone feel very welcome.  He has a great eye for knowing which frames suit you best and also a vast knowledge of lenses. Antony was a driving force in our relocation to St. Sepulchre Gate, planning and designing the new practice.

Brenda McGillicuddy is our town centre practice manager and has years of experience in helping customers choose the perfect frames and packages for them. As well as being a whizz with paper work!

We are all ably supported by Jane Moore, Sarah McGillicuddy, Marilyn Stones and Georgia England who are our optical assistants and also by John Jones our bespoke lens technician.

We are also fortunate to have optometrists Martin Whatley, Paul Shacklock and Anthony Klineberg working with us at Bell Brothers, who are expert practitioners and really great people to work with.

Our busy Thorne branch is managed by Antony, who has also been behind the many improvements to the Thorne branch which now looks fantastic.

Antony is ably assisted by Hayley, Nicky and Sharon who are all first rate at their jobs, they will offer practical help and advice and also make you really welcome

Our Rossington branch is essentially run by Lynne who, like many of our staff, has been with us for very many years and is excellent at her job.  She will help you feel at home and will look after your eyecare, ably assisted by Diane.
